Opera cryptocurrency wallet now supports Bitcoin and Tron blockchain
Internet browser Opera has added support for Bitcoin payments in its cryptocurrency wallet. Announcing news on Oct 22, 2019, the latest release for Android allows users to send and receive Bitcoin (BTC) and access their transaction history.
Opera is the first major browser to integrate a cryptocurrency wallet, enabling crypto payments to be securely made on websites directly within the mobile browser. Opera’s cryptocurrency wallet also supports non-fungible tokens (NFTs) including Crypto Kitties.
Until now, Opera’s built-in cryptocurrency wallet only supported Ethereum and ERC-tokens. In addition to Bitcoin support, Opera’s Android users can now also send and receive Tron (TRX) and TRC10 tokens. Adding Bitcoin payments and support for the blockchain platform marks one further step to making Web 3 more inclusive and user-friendly for people around the world.
Making Web 3.0 more accessible
Web 3.0 faces many challenges before it can reach wider adoption. One of the key barriers is the complicated installation procedures involved to access blockchain applications. Using cryptocurrencies online and accessing Web 3 required special apps or extensions, which made it difficult for people to even try it out. Opera browsers remove that friction.
In Dec 2018, Opera became the first major browser to include a native Cryptocurrency wallet and Web 3.0 explorer which makes it easier for people to transition and interact with the blockchain-based application. In April 2019, Opera introduced this functionality to desktop browsers, and in June 2019, extended availability to the iOS touch devices.
