Ethereum grows to 50 Million + unique addresses
According to data from ETH Block explorer ‘Etherscan’, on 15th Dec 2018, the number of unique Ethereum wallet addresses crossed 50 million. Despite the trouble market conditions, Ethereum saw a steady growth trend this year.
The main reason for this growth could be credited to the increasing number of startups using ICOs and accepting ETH for fundraising in the year 2018.
While the unique address has grown, however, the number of transactions carried out on a certain day has steadily decreased throughout 2018.
Peaking at 1.34 million on 4th Jan 2018, the number of transactions in the ETH network since then has dropped by 57 % to 570k transactions recorded on 17th Dec 2018.
Note: On 1st of Jan 2018, ETH network recorded 18.3+ million unique ETH wallet addresses. Analysis source: etherscan.io.
In comparison, Bitcoin: As of 17th Dec, Bitcoin has 31.5 million unique wallet addresses, an increase of approx 50% from 1st Jan 2018 stats.
The total number of transactions recorded on the Bitcoin blockchain on 17th Dec 2018 was approx 298K. The highest number of transactions was registered on Dec. 14, 2017, with 490 K transactions.
Note: On 1st Jan 2018, Bitcoin network recorded ~21.5+ million unique wallet addresses.
The number of unique sending and receiving Bitcoin addresses carrying out transactions on a certain day has decreased from its peak of 1.07 million unique addresses on 14th Dec 2017 to 466,783 unique addresses recorded on 17th Dec 2018. Analysis source: Blockchain.com.
