Abu Dhabi embraces blockchain to digitally transform land registry
Abu Dhabi Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities has partnered with Tech Mahindra, an Indian IT firm to build a blockchain solution for the land registry. All property-related documents issued by the municipalities will be stored in the blockchain.
The blockchain-based solution is a step towards using new-age technologies to enhance Abu Dhabi ‘s citizen experience. The use of blockchain will help to increase transparency and traceability of records. Additionally, it can help to reduce the processing time related to Abu Dhabi land registry-related transactions.
An application ‘SmartHub’ will be available to citizens allowing buying resale property and tenancy contract verification.
Speaking on the occasion, Ahmad Abdolsamad AlHammadi, the CIO of Abu Dhabi Municipality, said: “We believe in proactively embracing new-age technologies and delivering better citizen experiences to our residents”.
He added that “The implementation of next-gen technologies like Blockchain and SmartHub digital services will help to serve a wider segment of citizens enhancing customer happiness, quality of life and accessibility of our services.”
This is the first time Tech Mahindra is providing blockchain-based solutions. Interestingly, Tech Mahindra has a strategic partnership with Eleven01 who has a land registration dApp in advance stages of development.
Also, the firm has closely worked with ChromaWay in the past who have already developed a blockchain land registry for the Swedish government.
